"...Once more outside the pub, dear friends, once more, and close our throats around this English ale.
In lockdowns one and two, and all those tiers and tears between, nothing so became a man as gentle peace and sobriety;
But when the shout of ‘they're open' rings in our ears, then imitate the action of the racehorse.
Stiffen the elbows and summon up the beergut, disguise innebriation with a gentle gaze.
Now set your mouth and stretch your tonsils wide.
Hold hard the glass and bend every tankard to it’s full height.
On, on you noble quaffers, you whose blood was made by fathers of six percent proof,
Fathers that like so many hardened drinkers have in this pub from morn till even drunk and never left without an argument.
And you good yeoman, whose arms could lift for England, show us here the bottom of your glasses.
For there is none of you so mean and base that has not trouble focussing your eyes.
I see you stand like greyhounds at the bar straining upon the start.
The game’s afoot.
Follow beer with spirits and upon this charge cry thank God for Banks's, Guinness, and all those weird craft beers..."
